So,
finally, the Library’s Open! Well, but what does that mean, to anyone? Well, this
is my attempt to explain the purpose of this blog, why I did it, and how the
system will work around here. Gotta keep it orderly, after all.
First, a bit of backstory:
I’ve been playing adult games
for some years. Well, was playing games even before that, but once I fell down
this rabbit hole, I just had to continue down this route. I’ve played quite a
few games in the meanwhile, although more inclined towards Femdom, as per my
own fetishes. And, well, with playing the games, I started going for
Completionism on them as well, since its one thing I like to do with games
(within reason, I’ll take a 99% if the rest 1% requires sacrifices to Satan and
50 years to accomplish).
For
most games, that meant just completing them normally and reaching their end,
which usually fully unlocks their galleries etc. But for some games, this
actually was not the case, as they did not have Galleries for their Scenes,
which made it annoying to access a specific Scene when desired. And since I like
making it easier for me in the future to, well, browse to specific scenes when
needed, I started working towards making that possible in those cases as well. Thus,
I started making SaveGalleries; basically, making a Save for each individual
Scene / Cluster of Scenes / Points of getting Scenes, depending on how each
game worked with the saves. That also meant I’d have to write down what each Save
was for, and make it easy for a Me in the future to quickly browse through. And
that, I did for a few games.
Another habit I had, in general,
but also accentuated in Adult Games, was to hack them. Well, nothing much
fancy, usually cheating using Cheat Engine with quick value-finding and some
SpeedHacking on the side. But, as with everything, I got greedy, and wanted to
make Cheat Tables to last through re-openings of the game, make SpeedHacking be
even better etc. Thus, I did make a general Cheat Table, and used it on most games, at times making specific Tables for games that I felt really needed Cheats on the quick.
And one more thing. Playing RPG
games in which you had Analyze-type abilities, that allowed you to see enemy’s info,
got me interested in writing the info down to know them without checking each
time with those skills (and wasting turns each time), or Save-Scumming to not
waste Turns. To be fair, while Wikis usually exist, some of the games I was
playing were too obscure to have dedicated Wikis with the info, or at times I
just needed the enemy info in a quick txt file, instead of dedicated wiki pages
per each enemy.
All of this, I was doing as a
hobby, to further enhance the experience of playing those games. And I also
made all of this with ease of re-usage in mind, considering that a Me in the
future might forget some of the fresh info I had in mind at the time of making
the Files. And, well, at one point I thought of actually sharing all of those
Files with the community. Cuz why not? I did share some of those files,
individually, for each game, in their own forums. However, I did want to have
things a bit more organized, and so I was thinking of making this Blog. And
well… here we are.
On the side, I also was
thinking, for quite a while, of starting to make general Reviews on any type of
entertainment. And with making this Blog, now I have the occasion to actually
make some Reviews, as well!
Well, enough about my own intrinsic
motivations, now about how this Library should function!
I plan on posting, for each game,
a Review and the Files that I managed to make on it. Obviously, one can simply
ignore the Review part and get straight to the files, which will have links in
each Post. To make browsing even faster, there will be an “List of Covered Games”
page under “List of Content”, which will have quick links for all the content currently
on the blog. If, at any point, I decide on going after other forms of Media,
such as Adult Videos / Anime / etc, I’ll probably have to adapt some of this a
bit, but for now, it’s strictly for Games.
The “List of Covered Games” will
have all of the games organized under separate Tables, ordered Alphabetically.
There will be a Table for each of the Main Categories of Games that I will use,
the categories being arbitrarily chosen by me. Those will be:
- “Femdom Fantasy/Succubi” – The games that revolve more around sexual acts,
done still in a dominant fashion by the female, and would involve other species
such as Succubi / Monster Girls / Demon Girls etc. Will include fetishes like
Energy Drain, Brainwash, Charming, etc.
- “Femdom Kinky/Fetish”
– The games going for more realistic adult Scenes, with fetishes that could be
done in reality for the most part, and not that specific on the sexual act
itself, but more on the fetish side and the domination part of the act. Will include
fetishes like Foot worship, Body worship, Smell/Taste fetish, Watersports etc.
- “Femdom Vore” – While this is also a fetish, I generally consider it pretty
separate from the other categories, as it has its fair share of subcategories,
and games dedicated to it. Involves all forms of Vorarephilia, or Vore for
short.
- “Ryona” – Not femdom (usually), translated as “Rape”, it involves games in
which the female MC usually ends up pretty abused by the enemies, in any number
of ways; I won’t be hitting up many games in this genre, unless by request.
- “Vanilla” – Basically,
normal love, balance of power between the partners relatively equal etc.
- “Maledom” –
Very rare for me to play, pretty obvious in the name.
As for what those Tables will
contain, they will have 4 columns, for each game. One for the Review (with
link), one for the Files that I have for the game (describing what Files there
are for the specific game, with link as well), one for Files made by others for
the game (where relevant, with links to THEIR own posts; I don’t want to steal
credits), and one for the Let’s Play, if I ever make one for that specific game.
Now as for the Posts on the Blog.
For now, I plan on mostly having posts be Reviews on each game (with the Files
for each game). I will also post some content of my own in the future (erotic
writing, maybe even a game...), but in a separate Tab on the Blog. If I feel
motivated, I might do some LPs (written, with Pictures, kind of like what you’d
find on the LP Archive) on games that actually have worthwhile content to LP on
(big enough, interesting enough, and hard enough to warrant an LP and not a
simple advice).
First thing within each post will be the
Post Date, and any following Edit Dates. The Post Date will be relevant,
especially if information within the post end up changing in time (to have a reference
for when the post was first made), and Edit Dates will show up when the need
arises to update info on posts (usually with specifying the reason for the edit
itself).
For the Reviews, I want to
use a specific structure. First, I’ll have, within the reviews, both Subjective remarks (would be pretty
boring otherwise) and Objective remarks (well, as objective as one can be at least).
Both will be written Bolded, either way, but they will be colored Red for the
subjective ones and Blue for the
Objective ones. Black means I’m actually speaking directly, outside of the
review, like I’m doing here in this post. If the text is black and not Bolded,
then it’s direct quotes or text from the game / an official source. If I start
LPs, I will probably use a similar text formatting scheme. Now as for the
Review itself. In the beginning, I will actually put a TL;DR for the people
that simply want to move on with it (I can respect that choice as well) (no
really, its fine), which will also include my Final Score for the game. The
rest of the review will basically break down that Score and its reasoning.
Score will be from 0 to 10 (yes, including the 0 and the 10, if needed), and to
actually reach it, I will split the review into Major categories, each with
minor categories of their own. Each minor category will have its own score, the
Major categories will get their score from Averaging their own minor
categories, and Final Score will be the Averaging of the Major categories.
As a first Major category, I’ll
go with the Plot. Yea, totally the reason we play those games. But in
all honesty, it’s still a factor in the Game’s overall quality, so I’ll have to
look over it. More specifically, over its Story, basically the
game’s setting and how the action unfolds (and how many plot-holes we can
quickly see in it). Also, not forgetting Characters, which includes
our Main Character that we play as (or the Party that we play as, where existing),
and also the other characters, including our allies, enemies and whatnot.
For the second Major category, I
will look at the Gameplay of the, well, Game. First, at its Mechanics,
which will include the Game’s genre, how it adheres to it, and generally how it
plays out. Then, Complexity, to address its difficulty, how it
evolves, if its warranted and where it stems from. Uniqueness (no,it
doesn’t sound weird, you’re weird) to talk about what sets it apart from other
games, especially from the same (or similar) genre. And Replayability, which
includes how likely are you to replay it, if it has New Game+ functions, or
Mod-ability included.
Continuing with the third Major
category, it will be the actual Scenes, for most, the actual reason to
play the game. Within it, there will be Visual category, noting
all of the visual side of the game (animation/art), and its quality.
Afterwards, there is Written, the actual writing in the scenes
(and also its quality), pretty obvious there. Then, Interactivity,
the player involvement in the scene (what makes it part of a game and not part
of a movie). Lastly, Replayability, and no, I’ve not gone senile,
it is actually different from the same category under Gameplay, since here it
involves the existence of any way of seeing the Scenes at will, or how much
effort is required to do so.
Onwards now to the fourth Major
category, controversially, is going to be Development. This community,
especially on the more-indie side, has had, and is still having, quite an issue
with lots of would-be developers that would show that, well, effort is not one
of their strong points. And now, I’ll put some importance on that aspect.
Namely, on the Stability, which will see about the development’s
progress, if there are any playable builds during the process, how often they
come, and how much content each of them usually has. There will also be Communication,
summing up the Developer’s interactions with the community, how they do their
progress reports etc. Obviously, this Major category will feel different
between Indie Developers and Bigger Publishers, such as Circles or Companies,
but it will be addressed case-by-case.
Finally, as an ending Major
category, we’ll go with Obtaining, referring to what you would have to
do to get your hands on the game, or its latest version, or its chapters etc. (yes,
so many games use different styles of content-releasing, we’ll just have to tackle
them case-by-case). In here, we can focus first on its Price, if
it has one (Free being obviously the best price), and if it truly fits (sometimes,
you can be worse than even Free in quality…). Also, the Method of
obtaining the game, basically what sites you need to browse for it, where do you
put your card number if it requires payment, where to find all its parts, how
many firstborns need be sacrificed for the game and all that. Of course, all
this, where it is still possible to Obtain said game (rare cases can occur, of
a game almost disappearing from existence, but in those cases, I’ll just provide
the game myself (after making sure I don’t cheat anybody of an honest profit by
doing so, of course) ).
At the end of each Review, there
will be the Files, linked and explained (explanation will also be avaliable as
a txt file within the Files themselves). Depending on the game, Files might
include SaveGalleries (where needed), Full Saves, Cheats, Info (in txt files,
about the game), and possible Modifications (rare, usually for RPGMaker games).
If there are Files made by Others, in the forums or wherever, I will link to
their posts, specifying what you’ll find there (though it will usually also be
explained in their own posts as well). If I start an LP on that game, I will
also link that. One thing to specify as well, pretty obvious, but I won’t share
games themselves, especially if they are not free. Plenty of other ways to get
them yourself, no need for help there. Also, even for free games, I’d rather
link to the page where you’d be able to download the game directly from the
developer instead, to avoid any issues. It’s possible to make exceptions from
this in the case of lost Game Files or lost Versions (that are not accessible
normally anymore, and thus, will not affect the developer directly if I were to
share them if I have them myself).
On the subject of Files, I will
also share, on a separate Page under “List of Content”, general tools and files I
use for most games. Basically, a general-purpose place for Tools, in case those
also help others (with specifications on how to use each, as well).
Now for shilling out. I have a
Patreon page, in case you feel like giving me support for what I’m doing here. I
will try to keep all of my content free, and the Patreon will mostly be simply an
optional way to show appreciation for the help, of course, if I managed to help
you with the blog and its contents. There will be rewards for Patreon tiers,
including recognition for each tier (under Library Members page), access to my
Discord server for more direct inputs, discussions and maybe even a general
community (if it is to be), and, in higher tiers, for a bonus incentive,
degrees of input on future content on the blog. More details are up on the
Patreon itself. I also plan to add more features, and flesh out in general the
whole system, bit by bit, so stick around to see the evolution!
Also, pretty obvious, but I appreciate
all and any input (well, constructive input at least), so you can comment on
the posts, especially if I get things wrong, or if you have suggestions on how
to shape up the system better etc. Still plenty of room for growth and change. I
also browse forums, for the games that I play and review, so we can talk there
as well.
With this, I kickstart
this blog. Let’s build this library up!
